uumate is a free, fast, live and bootable computer operating system based on the Ubuntu MATE distribution of Linux. As expected, uumate is built around the MATE graphical desktop environment, but includes a great selection of open source software packages.

Highlights and Known Issues

To celebrate the 14.10 codename “Utopic Unicorn” and to demonstrate the easy customisability of Xubuntu, highlight colors have been turned pink for this release. You can easily revert this change by using the theme configuration application (gtk-theme-config) under the Settings Manager; simply turn Custom Highlight Colors “Off” and click “Apply”. Of course, if you wish, you can change the highlight color to something you like better than the default blue!

Starting with Xubuntu 14.10, you should use pkexec instead of gksudo for running graphical applications with root access from the terminal for improved security. The Xubuntu team has prepared and shipped the necessary pkexec policy files for all default applications in the Xubuntu installation that we deemed necessary.

HandyLinux Light is an open-source and completely free distribution of Linux derived from the award-winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system. It is a special edition of HandyLinux Light that uses a lightweight graphical desktop environment and software selection, suitable for low-end machines or computers with old and semi-old hardware components.

It’s distributed as multilingual Live CDs for the 32-bit architecture

Being designed from the ground up to run on slow computers, HandyLinux Light is distributed as two Live CD ISO images that support the i686 and i486 32-bit instruction set architectures. An Add-on CD that contains additional software packages is also available for download.

The Live CDs support various languages and only 32-bit applications, despite the fact that they are bootable on 64-bit machines. Supported languages include English and French.
