VLC 2.2 Officially Released, Lets Users Resume Movies from Where They Left Off

http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/vlc_portable

VideoLAN announced the general availability of the highly anticipated VLC Media Player 2.2.0 open-source and multi-platform video playback application a couple of hours after releasing the sixth maintenance release of the 2.1 branch, VLC 2.1.6, as reported by Softpedia yesterday, February 27.

Some of our readers were confused about these new VLC releases that appeared on the same day, so they’ve asked us to clear up the confusion and make a separate article with all the features introduced by the major 2.2.0 update of VLC Media Player, which deprecates version 2.1.6.

VLC 2.2.0 includes a huge number of new features, as well as assorted bug fixes and improvements, so make sure you visit the official announcement for details. We've also reported earlier this month that VLC 3.0.0 will introduce some powerful features, including Wayland and Chromecast support.

Prominent features of VLC Media Player 2.2.0, dubbed Weatherwax, include support for resuming videos from where you left off, support for automatically rotating videos on mobile phones, compatibility with new HD (High Definition), H.265/HEVC, Opus, and VP9 codecs for both encoding and decoding operations.
VLC finally returns to iOS and fights the Vertical Video Syndrome

Basado em: Independent
Origem: Australia
Architecture: i386

Quirky, a sister project of Puppy Linux, is a Linux distribution built with a custom tool called Woof. The underlying infrastructure, such as boot-up and shut-down scripts, setup tools, hardware detection, desktop management, user interface, speed and general ease-of-use are common across all distributions built with Woof, but a specific build will have a different package selection and further customisation (even totally different binary packages). Quirky is developed by the founder of Puppy Linux and Woof to push the envelope a bit further, to explore some new ideas in the underlying infrastructure -- some of which may be radical or odd, hence the name Quirky.

LFA (Linux For All) 15.04 Build 150225

   http://sourceforge.net/projects/lfa-linux/
LFA (Linux For ALL) is an open source GNU/Linux distribution based on the Ubuntu 14.10 operating system and bundled with the Fluxbox window manager. It runs only on 64-bit hardware platforms and includes Linux kernel 3.19.0.
Distributed as a 64-bit Live DVD

It is distributed as a single Live DVD ISO-hybrid image, which means that users will be able to easily deploy it on a USB flash drive and run the live environment in persistence mode (it saves all the changes made during the live session).
Boot options

The boot medium can also be used to copy the entire ISO image to RAM (system memory) and eject it. Keep in mind though, that everything will be lost when you reboot the computer. In addition, you can boot an existing operating system, run a memory test or install LFA directly without testing it first (not recommended).

By default, the operating system will drop users to a LightDM login screen, from where they can choose the desktop environment to be used for the live session. The username is lfa, without a password. Apparently, you need to choose a session, as the operating system has not been instructed to start a specific desktop environment.
Features the Fluxbox window manager

The distribution features the minimalistic Fluxbox window manager and uses the Cairo-Dock as the desktop interface. The layout consists of a panel located on the bottom edge of the screen, as well as a dock (application launcher) on the upper part of the scree

                          Cubuntu 14-04-183Cubuntu
                         http://sourceforge.net/projects/cubuntu/

is an open source Live Linux operating system based on the world’s most popular free operating system, Ubuntu Linux. It is built around the Unity desktop environment and supports only the 64-bit architecture. In addition to Unity, Cubuntu includes the Cinnamon desktop environment, the Openbox window manager, as well as the GNOME Classic desktop environment (with Compiz and Metacity).
Distributed as a dual-arch Live DVD

Before anything else, we should mention that this project is based on a development version of Ubuntu (14.04 LTS at the moment of writing this article) and it is not suitable for production machines. In addition, the Live DVD supports only the French language, which might be an issue for some people.
Live DVD boot options

The boot menu of the Live CD is much more simplistic than the one found in Ubuntu. However, it presents the usual live mode, install mode, memtest (for testing your computer's memory (RAM)), hd (for booting the operating system that is currently installed), and xforcevesa (for booting the live environment in safe graphics mode). Because it uses the GRUB bootloader, experienced users can easily edit all of the aforementioned boot menu entries by pressing the Tab key on a selection. Even if the Live CD is available in French, the boot menu and the entire installation process is in English.

Novidades do elementary OS 0.3 “Isis” Beta 1

Configura as mudanças:

CrunchBang++ Beta 02132015

                    http://crunchbangplusplus.org/

CrunchBang++ is an open source and completely free computer operating system, designed as a continuation of the CrunchBang Linux distribution, based on newer Debian 8 (Jessie) packages and built around the minimal and lightweight Openbox window manager. CrunchBang++ is also known as CBPP or #!++ or CrunchBang Plus Plus.
Distributed as a 32-bit installable ISO image

Currently, the CrunchBang++ distribution is available for download as an installable ISO image that fits perfectly on a CD disc and includes software packages optimized only for computers supporting the 32-bit instruction set architecture. Of course, you can also use a USB thumb drive of 1GB or higher capacity to boot and install the operating system on your computer.
Installing CrunchBang++

CrunchBang++ is not a live system, so you will have to install it using either the graphical (recommended) or text-mode installers offered at boot. Basically, the user will only have to choose a language, select his/her current location, configure the keyboard, configure the network, set up users and passwords, configure the clock, partition the disk, configure the package manager, and install the bootloader.

                   Bridge Linux Xfce 2015.02´

                      http://millertechnologies.net/

Welcome to the Xfce edition of Bridge Linux, which is also the first Bridge Linux flavor that was ever created, based on the powerful Arch Linux operating system and built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment.
Availability, supported architectures and boot options

Bridge Linux Xfce is available for download as Live DVD ISO images, supporting both 64-bit (x86_64) and 32-bit (i686) instruction set architectures. The user must burn these ISO images to blank DVD discs or write them to USB flash drives of 1GB or higher capacity in order to boot them from the BIOS of the PC.

The boot loader is identical with the ones of other Bridge Linux editions, enabling the user to start the live environment with default options or by forcing the VESA framebuffer and using the nomodeset option, in case the first boot entry won't recognize some devices. In addition, it is possible to start a memory test, view detailed information about your computer's hardware components, as well as to reboot or shutdown the computer.
Traditional and clean desktop environment with lightweight apps

The Xfce project is well know for offering a traditional and clean desktop environment to Linux-based operating systems no matter the package management used. It is a flexible graphical environment that can be blended in many ways, such as the two-panel layout provided in this distribution.
